投銭供養 A unique memorial service in Naruto

年に2回

先祖の供養にお寺に行ってます。

その供養の方法、　

とっても　変わってるんです😲。

地元の人は、そういういい方しないけど

投銭供養です！

小銭を投げるのですから・・💰💦。

My family goes to the temple 

to hold a memorial service for our ancestors twice a year.

The service is not called "Nagesen Kuyo," by the local people,

but it is "Nagesen Kuyo."

It is very unique in Japan.

Nagesen means throwing coins, 

and Kuyo means to hold a memorial service.

檀家の人々は事前に小銭を用意してお寺に行きます。

住職はお経を唱えながら

それぞれの先祖の名前を読み上げるんです。

自分の祖先の名前を聞いたら

供養の気持ちを込めて

用意した小銭を住職に向かって投げるんです。

住職は部屋の真ん中、

ブルーシートを敷き詰めて他真ん中に座っているんです。

小銭をすぐに回収できるように。

The supporters of the temple bring lots of one yen coins beforehand.

Our monk recites Buddhist scriptures, 

and calls each ancestor's names of the supporters.

When people hear their ancestor's name, 

they throw the coins to the monk 

sitting on the blue mat in the middle of the monk.

So after the service, it is easy to collect all of the coins.

今年は、先週火曜日の午後遅くにお寺に行きました。

すでに多くの檀家が供養を済ませていたので

小銭がいっぱいでした。

いくらあるんだろう？？

We went to the temple last late Tuesday afternoon.

The monk had been already surrounded by lots of coins.

Ī wondered how much were there on the mat???

それにしても、

どんなきっかけで、

こんな供養の仕方に、なったんでしょうね??

I'm interested in the history of this kind of

memorial service very much.

徳島に帰ったよ～ I'm back to Tokushima.

ブログの投稿が遅れ気味ですが・・・

徳島に帰省中～

主人も横浜から帰省して、

お盆の間は、

鳴門のオリーブガーデンの手入れに明け暮れました。

I'm a little behind of updating this blog💧.

Now,I'm in Tokushima.

During the O-Bon vacation my husband was came back to Tokushima,

we spent most of the time to take care of 

our olive garden in Naruto.

相変わらず、

雑草の勢いはすごいけれど、

月に1回は、草刈り機で刈っているので

手入れは楽です。

The garden is overgrown with weeds as usual, but

it is much easier to take care of it

because I cut weeds with a weed mower every month.

レモンの木には

1個と思っていたら

3個の実が大きくなっていましたよ～

これって、いつ収穫するのかな？

We have one lemon tree and it produces 3 lemons!

They are growing.

I wonder when to cultivate them.

スダチの実は、

思ったよりも今年は収穫少なそう。

2本のうち1本は実が全くついてない。

なぜだろう～？？

The amount of sudachis this year is less than last year.

One of two sudachi trees has no fruit at all.

雑草の中で生きてきた

藍たちは、逞しく大きく成長していました。

葉っぱを収穫して、

お茶にしたり、ローション作ったり、お酒にしたり・・

いろいろ活用してみるつもり！

少しずつ買って、ドライにしていま～す。

The indigo plants grow well even with lots of weeds.

Using the leaves, I'm going to make tea, lotions, drinks, and so on.

Now I cultivate the leaves little by little.

 and I'm making them dry.

ハーブもありますよ。

挿し木した、ラベンダーも

ブッシュ化しておりますぅ。

私、思うのですが、

このラベンダーの香りが

イノシシ侵入を食い止めるのに、役立つのではないかと・・・

今年の春　イノシシにガーデンを荒らされたのですが、

ラベンダーと藍のある所は、

入ってきていないんですよ。

I also have several kinds of herbs in the garden.

Last year I propagated lavender from cuttings,

now they grows well and each of them become like a bush.

I think the aroma of the lavender prevents our garden from

wild boars, because they didn't approached 

the area of lavender and indigo plants 

although they made a mess 

in the other part of our garden.

いつか、

オリーブガーデンが

鳴門のいこいの風景になるといいな💗。

I hope that

some day our olive garden will be the place to relax.

京都にあるフクロウと猫の森 Forest of owls & leopard cats in Kyoto

実家徳島へ帰省する前に
娘のいる大阪に立ち寄りました💙。
徳島の姪っ子👧も遊びに来て
3人で　京都へ行ってきました。

On the way back to my hometown, Tokushima,
I dropped by my daughters's apartment in Osaka.
My niece in Tokushima also visit us, so
we went for a trip to Kyoto.

京都と言っても、
行ったのは、
姪っ子の好きな
アニメイト💦。
アニメ関連の本やグッズ、ゲームなどを売ってるお店です。
そのあと、
近くに「フクロウの森とベンガルキャットの森」があるというので
行ってきました🐾。

Kyoto is an ancient city, but
my niece isn't interested in that.
She asked me to take to a shop, "animate",
which sells mangas and the related goods, and games.
After that
we visited at the forest of owls and leopard cats.

アニメイトは私には興味のない場所でしたが、
フクロウとベンガルキャットには、テンションがあがりました。
特にフクロウはタッチできるということでわくわく～💖

Animate was not interesting place to me, but
visiting the forest sounded excited to me because
the guide book said that you can touch them.

店の名は森なのですが、
実際は部屋の中。
（京都の町中にあるのですから。）
10羽ほどのフクロウが
木の枝にとまっているのを見学できるのです。
大きいのや、小さいの、
木の葉っぱにカムフラージュされているフクロウは、
接近してからその存在に驚いちゃう事も！
サプライズなウエルカムに感激～！

The shop's name has the word of forest,
but the animals were in large rooms.
(the location is in the middle of Kyoto)
There were about 10 owls perching on branches.
Some were large, some were small.
Some owl's bodies were dark, which
made us so surprised because we couldn't recognize them.

それに、
ずんぐりむっくりな胴体に、
おちんばかりな大きな目
無表情な顔のまま
首が回りすぎるぐらい回転させてくれて
面白かった～

Their round fluffy bodies,  large eyes
and poker faces made us crazy about them.


さらに、
手の甲で、
フクロウの頭から背中にかけて
優しくなでてあげる事が出来るんです！
ふわふわ
もふもふ～

Moreover,
You can pet them gently with your back hand
from the his head to the back.
They were fluffy and very soft.

藍徳島のロゴマーク・組藍海波紋 Kumi Aigaiha Mon

「藍とくしま」のロゴマークは、

組藍海波紋。

ん？💦

意味は想像できるけど、
どう読むの？💦💦
確認すると、

「くみあいがいはもん」と読むんですね。

The logo of ”Ai Tokushima" is "Kumi Ai gaiha Mon".

Kumi=combination,

Ai=indigo blue,

gai=ocean
ha=wave

Mon=pattern

I don't know much about art, so

 I could figure out the meaning, but I was not sure how to read it
when the word appeared to me at the first time.

日本の和柄の中で
とっても人気のある柄💖は

「青海波（せいがいは）」
青海波の意味は、字のごとく
青い海の波。

徳島のロゴマークは
その青を、徳島の色「藍」に変えたわけですね。

”Seigaiha" is one of Japanese popular traditional patterns

"Seigaiha" literally mean the waves of blue sea.
Sei=blue
gai=ocean
ha=wave
"Ai"which means indigo blue is used instead of "Sei" for
the Tokushima logos.

青海波の模様は、

3重の半円の連続で、

波が末広がりに広がっていく感じ。

"Seigaiha"

is a pattern of

continuous triple half-circles.

It is  one wave spreads like a fan form shape.

組藍海波紋は、

重なる円や波、そして

白と藍色の組み合わせ。

とても目を引きます。

鳴門の渦潮や祖谷の雲をイメージしているとのこと。

デザインは、野老（ところ）氏

東京オリンピック・パラリンピックのエンブレムをデザインされた方です。

"Kumi Aigaiha Mon" shows

multiple circles and waves.

The color is white and indigo blue.

It is very eye-catching.

It gives you the image of Naruto whirlpools
and the clouds in the Iya area.

Mr. Tokoro Asao , who designed the

Tokyo Olympics and Paralympics logos,
also designed it for Tokushima.

　

ちなみに、

オリンピックのロゴマークの

市松模様は、英語で

checkered patternというんですね。

面白い。


By the way,
the Tokyo Olympics and Paralympics Games logo uses
"ichi matsu moyou", which is called checkered pattern in English.

とにかく、
「藍とくしま」のロゴマーク、とっても気に入ってます。

Anyway, I like the logo of "Ai Tokushima" very much.💖

9月現代クラフト展にむけて My project for the next exhibition

9月に徳島で現代クラフト展🍀が
開催されます。
刺繍や、染め、編み物、陶芸やフラワーアレンジメント等の部門があります。

私は、染色の部門で藍染めのタペストリーを

出品する予定です💓。

今は、その制作の真っただ中で～す。

The Modern Crafts Exhibition in Tokushima
 will be held in September.
There are several categories, such as embroidery, dyeing, knitting,
pottery, flower arrangement and so on.
I'm going to display a wall hanging to the dyeing section.
So, I'm working very hard on my work.

5月ごろから

デザインを考えはじめ💗、

それをどんな絞りで表現できるかな・・・

といろいろ模索してました。

教室で先生に、どんな絞りがよいのか
いろいろを教えてもらいました。
タペストリーの大きさは、大体
縦180センチ、横100センチ、
かなり大きいです💧。

I started designing for the exhibition in May.
Once I decided on the design, next step was to decide
what shibori patterns work best on my work.
My teacher helped me a lot with her advice.
The wall hanging is quite large, which is about
100 cm wide by 180 cm in length.

こんなに大きな作品を作るのは初めてです。

下絵を、布に書き写すのも

大変でした💦。

今、チクチク縫っています～。
絞るのが終わると、糸を引っ張って絞る作業。
絞ったところは染まらず、
それ以外のところが藍色に染まる、のです。
自分がどの部分をやっているのか確認しながら、。
でなければ、失敗して作品が台無しになってしまうから😓。

It is the first time for me to work on
uch a large cloth.
Copying the design to the fabric was also not easy.
Now, I'm stitching
and pulling up the threads
to gather the fabric.
So the tying areas will resist dyeing
with indigo  blue,
on the other hand the other
areas will be dyed with indigo blue.
I have to make sure
which part of the design I'm working on
otherwise I may make mistakes
and it'll make my work deteriorate.


糸を引っ張りすぎると、
プチっ！
絞りの糸が切れる音で、
血の気がさぁ～っとひいていきます・・・。
そうなると、
絞り直しです。
せっかく絞ったのに～😓😓😓。
と、半泣きです。
2度ほどありました。

If I pull threads too hard, they breaks.
The sound of breaking,
"Puchi!"  or  "Buchi!"
make my head blank.
If it happens,
my efforts come to nothing in the certain area.
It happened twice, and I made stitches again with crying.




昨日は、TVで長岡の花火を見ながら
夜チクチクしました。
カラフルな色の花火もいいし、打ち上げの音もいいですよね～。
もっとよく見たいと思いながらも、
花火は直ぐに消えてしまう。
そのはかなさがいいんですね。
TVでもとても綺麗で、
まるで自分がその場にいるようでした🎇🎇🎇。

Last night I made stitches,
watching the Fireworks festival program on TV.
I like the sounds of fireworks's explosions
as well as the various color.
I want to see the detail of each fireworks more,
but before trying to see them hard,
they disappeared in the sky.
They are too fragile to stay in the sky.
That's why I love fireworks so much.
The fireworks on TV was very beautiful, so
I felt like I went to see them.

藍の展示＠すだち君テラス

とくしま藍の日は、

県庁内に、展示されている
藍製品を見に行ってました。💖

I visited the Tokushima Prefectural office
to see some indigo dyed products during
the Tokushima Indigo Day.

広々としたロビー。
廊下を歩くと、
ロビーに展示されている藍の製品。
ショーケースの中には、
ワンピースドレスや浴衣、アクセサリーなど。
壁には大きなタペストリー
職員さんたちも、藍色のシャツを身に着けているのを
よく見かけました。

The lobby is commodious.
When I walked thorough the main hallway,
I found displays of indigo dyed products
in three locations.
There is a dress, yukata, flower arrangement,
wall hangings, and so on.
Many of the office workers
were wearing indigo colored shirts too.






さらに、
「すだち君テラス」という所にも展示されていました。
矢野先生の藍染と絞りの着物にカクテルドレスは、
やはり、一番先に目に飛び込んできますね。
そして、
BUAISOUさんの、けん玉、
木工作品と藍染をコラボした作品もありました。
藍で染めたコットンパールのアクセサリーも素敵でした。
一度にいろいろな藍の製品を堪能できって、
さすが、徳島！😍


I also visited Sudachiku-Terrace to see other products
on the same of the floor there.
What caught my eyes first was the kimono and dresses
dyed by my teacher, Mr.Yano.
There were also other unique works by dyers in Tokushima,
such as wood products, kendama, which is a Japanese toy,
cotton pearls, etc.
It was a great experience to see those unique items at the same time.
I'm very proud of Tokushima.

冷たい藍茶・はちみつ入り Iced Indigo Tea with honey

今週木曜日早朝に

横浜につきました。

自宅に帰る前に、

家の近くのセブンで、出勤前の主人と待ち合わせ。

コーヒーを一緒に飲みました。

7時過ぎでしたが、

夏休みなので、子供たちが走り回っていました。

元気ですね～。

I arrived at Yokohama this Thursday morning.

Before going back to my apartment,

I met with my husband at the 7-11 store near our apartment

to take coffee together.

It was before 7 a.m. but

kids were already playing outside.

Kids are very active!

家に帰ると、

散らかってはないのですが、

洗濯もの、全然自分でしてません・・・

10日分・・。

部屋は綺麗？な感じですが、
掃除はしなくちゃね～という状態でした。

When I entered my apartment, 

I found that the rooms were not messy.

My husband hadn't washed his clothes at all for 10 days.

The rooms appeared to be clean, but
they definitely needed to be cleaned.

午後からは、

フォトスタイリングの課題提出の準備。

ブレイクタイムに、

藍の乾燥葉をつかってアイスティーを作りました。

昼間は冷房を使っていないので、

さすがに暑くて、冷たいものが欲しいんです。

「生活の木」で買った、マヌカハニーを入れました。

藍の乾燥葉、活用してみたい、と思うことが

たくさんあるので、

今年もたくさん、乾燥葉を作るつもり～！

In the afternoon, I did my photo styling assignment.
It was too hot to stay inside without air conditioning、
so  I made iced indigo tea using dried indigo leaves,
and added one spoonful manuka houney.
I still have lots of dried indigo leaves, and want to use them
for cooking and drinking.
This year, I'll make dried indigo leaves, too.

とくしま藍の日 Tokushima Indigo Day

7月24日は、

徳島県が定めた

「とくしま藍の日」でした。

2020年東京オリンピックの公式エンブレムに

藍色が採用さたので、

徳島県がオリンピック開会日の7月24日を

「とくしま藍の日」に決めたのです。世間一般の人々が

藍に注目する日となるのですから、

嬉しいな～。

July 24th is "Tokushima Indigo Day"

 established by Tokushima prefecture
because it produces the top quality and quantity of indigo dyeing stuff,
and the color of indigo blue is used for the emblem of the Tokyo Olympics.
  The date is related to the opening day.  

I appreciate that more people will be able to get more attention
about indigo.

この日の午後は

徳島グランヴィリオホテルで

記念フォーラムがありました。
お話しされたのは、

東京五輪・パラリンピックの公式エンブレムを作成された

デザイナーの野老朝雄氏、

藍師佐藤好阿昭氏、

米国からローランド・リケッツ氏、

京都の染色家青木正明氏
どのお話も、素晴らしかったです。
特にリケッツ氏の、藍染は手間がかかるけれど、
環境にやさしい、という言葉が印象に残りました。

On the 24th,
I had a chance to attend a forum about indigo at

Tokushima Grandvryo Hotel.

The speakers were

Mr. Asao Tokoro who was the designer 

of the Tokyo 2020 Olympic and Paralympic logo. 

Mr. Yoshiaki Sato who is an indigo producer.

Mr. Roland Ricketts who is an artist from the US.

Mr. Masaaki Aoki who is a dyer in Kyoto.
They gave us great presentations.
Mr. Ricketts said ”indigo dyeing is environmentally friendly”,
which was very impressive words to me.

藍染めの日 Day for indigo dyeig

先週の土曜日は、

藍染めの日💘でした。

教室に行くと、

体験に来られた方が一名。

愛媛からでした。

2年前に藍染にであって、

ずっと本物の藍染をしたかったそうです。

他の生徒さんは、

今度の9月にあるクラフト展に出品する

作品作りをしていました。

私はデザインが終わったばかり。

間に合うかな💨💨💨。

Last Saturday was the day for dyeing

at my teacher's studio.

When I arrived there,

there was a visitor from Ehime prefecture.

She told me that

she had wanted to know about authentic indigo dyeing

since she encountered it a few years ago.

Other students were working on their shibori wall hangings
 for the next exhibition

coming in September.

I'm also going to display my work

at the exhibition,

but so far

I've just finsihed designing.

I'm very behind.

別の日ですが, 教室のアトリエで
矢野藍秀師が染めをしていました。
ここで染める人はみな
同じ染め液で染めることが出来ます💖💖💖。
Another day
Mr. Ranshu Yano was dyeing fabric at the studio.
The students and visitors
can dye fabric using the same indigo vats.

藍の生葉染め Fresh Leaf Indigo Dyeing

昨日の午後は

藍の葉を使った、

生葉染めをしました。
藍の葉が収穫できる時期限定の

お楽しみです💘💘

I dyed a silk stole using fresh-leaf indigo leaves
yesterday afternoon.
It is a summer only activity,
so I was looking forward to doing this.

まず、

ガーデンにある藍の葉を集めました。

今年最初の収穫です🍃🍃🍃。

I gathered a lot of fresh leaves from my  garden.
This was the first cultivation this year.

次は染め液を作り。

収穫した葉を水とともにブレンダーにかけて、
バケツに置いた洗濯ネットの中にいれます。
かすはネットの中、液はバケツに出てきます。

The first step was making  a vat of indigo.
First, I added the leaves and water to a blender,
and mixed it well.
Then, I poured the mixture into a laundry net
placed in a vat,
so only liquid came out of the net,
which was a vat of indigo.

染め液は長く持たないので、
（酸化してしまうから）
素早く

布を染め液につける、

しぼる、

水の中ですすぐ
（酸化で色がつく）、を

5回行いました💦💦💨。

2分ぐらいの間隔かな～。
明るいターコイズブルーにしあがりました。
レーヨンが入っているストールなので、
その部分の色が少し違って、いい感じです💓。


The vat doesn't last long,
(otherwise it gets oxidized) so
quickly, I repeated to soak in the vat,
then I wrung it, and then rinsed it in water 5 times
(oxidization in water makes bright indigo blue).
I did this process every two minutes.
My stole became a beautiful turquoise color.
The stole made from silk and rayon.
The pars of rayon dyed lighter,
so the shades of the color are beautiful.

「藍のけしき」の箱 A box of "Indigo Views"

7月21日に

阿波藍アート「藍のけしき」の

専用箱が主催する徳島県から届きましたよ～📦。

I received a box from
Tokushima which is hosting

Awa Indigo Art "Indigo Views."
It is to keep the cloth
which I dyed with indigo blue a week ago.

箱には、

光を取り入れる

マルと四角の穴があって、

好きなほうを選んで染めた布を保存するんですって。

私は、丸を選チョイス。

There are circle and square shaped holes on the box
to get light.

Instructions say that participants can choose either one they like,

and keep the indigo dyed cloth in it.

I chose  the circle hole.

夕方セットしたので、

光の具合が、ちょっとノスタルジックな感じ🌛🌛🌛。

I set up the box toward evening,

so my photos shows a nostalgic taste.

ところで、

参加者の総数は、定員を大きく超える400名以上。

海外からも100名を超えているそうで～
300人の予定だったのにね。

わくわくです👀！

By the way,

the total number of the participants are more than 400 

including more than 100 from abroad!
It was supposed to be 300.

I'm so excited for this huge project.

これから、年末まで

この布と同じ生活空間ですごします💓。

From now until the end of this year,

I will live with this indigo dyed cloth.
